Introduction: Some days are full of battles and I think lately, that even proves true MOST days. We often feel like we’re being chased! Slowing down, taking a breath, even putting some things off seems like a crime. I often tell people ‘I’ll never be rich, because being poor takes all my time!’ We are all too busy, with a lot left to do. That conflict is frustrating. We hear the tick, tick, tick of that clock and it set’s us on fire.
Fighting Time?
“Fire!” Not the house, the clock. Are you burning time? Do you find yourself running here, there, not accomplishing what you think you should? Your whole day goes up in smoke and you don’t realize that somebody’s guilty of arson. To be successful in today’s highly-competitive world you must be focused. You must have long and short-term goals; with sharp focus on the current 24 hours. When you know where you want to go, it’s easy to determine whether or not the work, tasks, and projects you’re working on will take you there.
That daily map is must. Do you spend time the night before a busy day planning your tasks? Do you prioritize? Those few minutes will save you time during your most hectic moments. Be prepared; at least for the most important events.
Here are 5 strategies you can use to manage your time and put out the fire:
1. Use Self Talk to organize your thoughts and tasks. Can you delegate to a responsible person? Have you over-loaded yourself? If that is your habit, make a committment to clean your to do list down to what can realistically be done.
2. Block out time for yourself. Close the door. Turn off the phone and give yourself an hour of uninterrupted time each day. Use that time for planning.
3. Work on your most important work, tasks and projects. Only do the things that have value. Eliminate everything else. Organize the stacks.
4. Use your Prime Time. There’s a time of day when you do your best work. When you’ve the most energy and enthusiasm, tackle your most important work at the time of day you’re at your best. Are you a morning person, afternoon bloomer, or late night star? Plan the easiest things to do when you are not your most energetic, and of course use the time when you’re flyin’ to make real time.
5. Reward yourself for tasks completed. Say it out loud, say it often, take time to feel good; it energizes you for the things that are ahead.
Set your goals; manage your time, and you’ll become more successful than you ever dreamed. Tick, tick, tick.
